Parallel to Knots and Folds new collection of prints, I have collaborated with Fikelie, a self-taught artist based in Lausanne.
Sophie Froidevaux, Fikelie's really name, is a childhood friend of mine, we were actually neighbours for 17 years! Last summer, she invited me to have dinner at her place and I saw all those beautiful paintings around her flat. I felt really touched by them - I thought that this artist had such a spontaneous approach, her work was credible, fun but also quite profound. I asked Sophie who was this 'Fikelie' ( as she signs her painting that way).When she told me that it was her and that Fikelie was the affectionate nickname her grandma, who had passed away recently, gave her; I fell in love with her paintings even more. I could find the emotion she had in her voice when talking about her grandma in her work.
I love when people use their creative skills and energy to subtly express their emotions.
We love Fikeli's story and we are so happy to have created two prints from her amazing art work!
